Although our roots are in Australia, the Australian Swim School has found its home in Orange County and Los Angeles County.
In 1976, John Bainbridge left Australia and arrived in the USA to pursue his master’s degree in education from California State University in Long Beach. John wrote his thesis on infant swimming. Using his background in education and his new found passion in infant swimming, the Australian Swim School was formed in 1977.
Within a year Diane Bainbridge joined John as they focused on saving infants from drowning in their backyard pools. From those early beginnings, the Australian Swim School has expanded into 4 indoor, year-round, aquatic centers. Although we are considered infant swimming specialists, over the years we have developed a fully comprehensive “Learn to Swim” Program using fundamental teaching methods with a systematic approach.
John’s extensive background in education and Diane’s experience with children formed a strong child development component within the program. The Australian Swim School is truly a child development under water educational experience.
